Peak Strain and Displacement Sensors

LifeSpan Technologies’ PeakStrain™ and displacement sensor for structural health monitoring is the foundation of our sensing portfolio.  Starting with an extrusion of aircraft grade aluminum, we fabricate an industrial strength sensor that has U.S. and Japanese patents protecting its unique capabilities.

Our flagship sensor has a number of practical attributes not found in other sensing devices:

    • Dual Channel – Our sensor captures both active (instantaneous) displacement/strain and peak tension displacement/strain values in a single integrated unit.  Other configurations provide for the capture of peak compressive displacement/strain or dual peak (tension and compression) displacements/strains.

    • Passive – Our sensor can capture peak displacement/strain data without power.  This is an ideal application for stand-alone, long term monitoring where data is only collected occasionally.

    • Rugged – Our sensor is designed for long-term monitoring in harsh, outdoor environments and is re-usable, reducing costs.

    • Versatile – Our sensor is designed for use in a variety of applications, particularly for structurally deficient bridges.

        • Displacement/Strain.

        • Crack Growth/Propagation.

        • Confirmation of Bearing Operation.

        • Relative Movement – Out-of-Plane Bending.

The displacement and PeakStrain™ sensor is also available as an extended range model, capable of capturing both peak tension and compression displacements up to 95 millimeters (~3.75 inches) – all in a single housing.
